The Marie Show: or How To Get a Wh*te Boyfriend

“The Marie Show: or How to Get a Whte Boyfriend in 10 Days” is a multimedia play set up as a live talk show (think Ziwe meets Random Acts of Flyness) where the host Marie and her ensemble of actors interrogate their existence under the wh*te gaze as well as their cognitive dissonances towards dating wh*te people, all while trying to save themselves and the show from being canceled.

Utilizing Wh*te Men in Dashikis, Anime Blerds doing Naruto runs, Dr. Umar, and a diverse group of Barbies having a race war; The Marie Show forces us to uproot our perceptions of what's real and what's fake. What happens when other people watch us desiring each other? Can you sell a lifestyle of desire? And who is pulling the strings?

Play and Film both written and conceived by Marie Tagbo for her Collaborative Arts senior thesis
